Valentine’s, Galentine’s or just because it’s the end of January Gift Guide
We’ve interviewed quite a few brands over the past few months so we thought it would be nice to ask them for their best gift recommendations as we head into February…
Part of the reason for setting up the CWG community was so that we can all share the country brands that we come across on our travels, so we’ve listed a few of our favourites below and we’d love it if you share some of your favourites brands in the comments.
Fox Cub & Co
We met Evie from Fox Cub & Co at Burghley Horse Trials and then interviewed her just before Christmas. These are the products she chose to share with you when we asked for her February recommendations. The first is her Almond Musk & Tonka Scented Candle and the second is Bergamot & Rose.
You can listen to our interview with Evie here. We talk about the ups and downs of setting up a business, the vagaries of starting out at retail and trade shows and much more.
King & Carr
Hannah founded King & Carr in 2023 and her gorgeous, designed for women, countrywear is becoming a firm favourite for the country crowd. Here’s Hannah’s gift recommendation for February.
“Meet our best-selling Norton Shirt. Epitomising our belief in beautiful, feminine clothes made in Britain from the best quality fabrics, our Norton Shirt in Blue/Tan defines elegant country style. Easy to wear and easy to style whatever your day looks like, with our signature frill collar and cuffs, our Norton Shirt helps you look and feel your confident best, effortlessly.”
You can listen to our interview with Hannah here. We talk about starting over with your business, the importance of tailoring and fit and how to spot a gap in the market and move into it.
Flora Percival
Harriet Willis is the founder of Flora Percival, a Made in the UK knitwear brand. We asked her to choose a long lasting gift recommendation from her collection and here’s what she had to say…
“Celebrate love this Valentine’s Day with The Wookey, a timeless unisex jumper crafted from 100% British wool. Ethically made here in the UK, this piece is perfect for those who appreciate sustainable, homegrown craftsmanship. Its cosy and timeless design makes it an ideal gift for your valentine — or even yourself! Whether you’re heading out for a brisk winter walk or snuggling up at home, The Wookey offers warmth, comfort, and style that lasts a lifetime. Show your love not only for that special someone but for the planet too with this thoughtful, sustainable choice.”
Harriet’s interview will be aired this coming Sunday, so do look out for it as it’s a great interview with lots of nuggets of advice about running a business, being a Mum and living in the countryside.
Georgie Campbell Foundation
Georgie Campbell was an inspiring Event Rider who sadly lost her life in a fall in 2024. Her family have established a Foundation in her memory to raise funds to help young Event Riders along their journey. We spoke to her sister, Jo Thompson, about Georgie’s life, coping with grief and what the Foundation hopes to achieve in this moving interview.
As part of the fund-raising, my company, Hiho Silver, worked with Jo and her family to design a collection of sterling jewellery to raise funds for the foundation. The first two pieces, a twig necklace and cufflinks were launched for Christmas 2024 and sold out almost immediately, with over 50% of the sale price donated to the Foundation. The significance of the twig is explained in our interview with Jo.
As always, thank you for reading and thank you for listening. If you wouldn’t mind, it would be great if you could like and share please as it really helps small businesses to find new audiences - and don’t forget to share any brands you like below.
